The Izhevsk gunsmiths traditions have evolved over more than one century. Today the city monuments and old plant buildings remind of the glorious history of Izhevsk gunsmiths.
The first Izhevsk plant workers were 30 employes of the Goroblagodatsky factories of Count Shuvalov. These people arrived on the banks of the Izh in 1760. Later, thousands of bonded peasants and recruits were added to them. Craftsmen from other Ural plants were transferred here. Experienced gunsmiths were also invited from abroad. A special, unique class of Izhevsk gunsmiths has formed. They had their own culture and traditions, which passed down through generations.
Today, more than 200 years later, Izhevsk is still a “city of gunsmiths”. So Kalashnikov Museum and Exhibition Complex of Small presents the new temporary exhibition “Izhevsk Gunsmiths”.
