An overview exhibition “Izhevsk the Defensive. The past and the present” opens on the eve of the Gunsmith Day at the M.T. Kalashnikov Museum and Exhibition Complex of Small Arms.

The post-war decades in the history of the USSR and the Udmurt Republic are a period of rapid growth of defense-related plants. Moreover it is also a time for the development of high technology industries and the assimilation of cutting-edge technologies.

Izhevsk has become a kind of an “incubator”: a new generation of engineers, gun designers and scientists has grown up here, joining the ranks of the scientific and technical elite of the domestic instrument engineering. Thus its own gun designer school was formed in the “City of gunsmiths» and that brought world fame to Izhevsk.

At the beginning of the XXI century the defense-related enterprises of our city retained their potential and keep developing.

Among the participants of the overview exhibition: “Izhevsk motor plant “Axion Holding company”, “Kalashnikov Concern”, “Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant “Kupol”, ” Izhevsk Mechanical Plant”, ” Izhevsk Radio Plant” and the group of companies “ZALA AERO”. They produce modern small arms, surface-to-air missile systems, missiles, remote-piloted vehicles, robotic systems, telecommunications systems, communication facilities and military uniform.

All presented exhibits will be of equal interest to both specialists and local citizens.

The exhibition is dedicated to the 260th anniversary of Izhevsk and the 100th anniversary of the statehood of the Udmurt Republic. It will open at the museum on September 3 and will run until November 29.
