Excursions

Sarapul is one of the oldest towns situated along the Kama shore, the former uyezd (district) center of Vyatka province.

The town is located along the navigable river Kama. Sarapul is rich in architectural monuments dating back mostly to the end of the19th – beginning of the 20th century. The building up ensemble of the historic part of the city has been preserved to the present day.

Sarapul was first mentioned in 1589. In 1789, during Yekaterina II administrative reform, it was granted the town status and became the uyezd center.

During the excursion the tourists will have a look at the architecture of the old merchant town, visit the oldest museum in Udmurtia founded by zemstvo (district council) in 1909, admire the pearl of architecture – a magnificent mason built in Art Nouveau style, a former country house of the timber merchant Pavel Bashenin, hosting the Art and Exhibition Complex of the History and Culture Museum of the Middle Kama region at present.

Sarapul is the birthplace of Nadezhda Andreevna Durova, the first Russian woman-officer who fought in the Patriotic War of 1812, the author of “The Cavalry Maid: The Memoirs of a Woman Soldier of 1812”.  The literature excursion around the memorial places of Nadezhda Durova’s life in Sarapul is based on her memoirs first published in A. S. Pushkin’s Sovremennik in 1836.

Boat trips along the Kama river are available in summer.

The excursion lasts 8 hours.
