“The Armourer”

The exhibition was devoted to 85-year anniversary of Evgeny Fedorovich Dragunov, a person belonging to a number of Izhevsk arms designers that gained world-wide prominency and recognition.

This man had wide knowledge, many arms designers consider themselves to be his followers. He was the first in the world to develop design baseline for a self-loading gun with high shooting accuracy, invented a self-loading rifle equal to non-automatic sniper rifles in accuracy.

Even before the invention of the famous “SVD” sniper rifle, E.F. Dragunov developed a sporting gun family of high accuracy class. In 50s of XX century these guns allowed to achieve a number of All-Union and world’s records.

This event established with direct contribution of the designer’s sun – M.E. Dragunov, provided detail and profound biography and career history of the great arms designer.


The exposition showcased photos, documents, welfare items, awards, favorite books telling us about the designer’s childhood, youth, technical school years, military service, family and work.

Special priority is given to E.F. Dragunov professional activity: Mosin carbine modernization,   development of a sniper rifle, sporting gun family, prototypes of different years, and, of course, his major creation – the self-loading rifle. The rifle has been in production since 1963 and made its author famous all over the world.

The exhibition also pictured E.F. Dragunov as a common personl: a family man, nature enthusiast, votary of hunting and mushrooming.
A group of art designers from Izhevsky Mechanichesky Zavod took active part in the exhibition establishment.
